Did Elmo Lead The Cloverfield Monster To NYC?

This is a screenshot taken from the trailer for the upcoming Abram produced film; Cloverfield. It is shown at the beginning of the trailer, in a scene for Rob's leaving party.

It's looks suspicously like Elmo might be the roaring scary monster stalking New York City.

Or possibly thinking about the phenomenon of Saint Elmo's Fire......
